Follow hashtags on Instagram!

Do you know that you can follow hashtags on Instagram?

If you select to follow hashtags on Instagram you will see posts using that hashtag in your feed.

Up until recently you either tapped on a hashtag you saw within Instagram to see more posts using that hashtag, or visited the ‘explore’ section of the app and used the search bar.

You can still use both of these options. But if you now follow a hashtag on Instagram (in the same way as you follow an account), you’ll start seeing top posts from that hashtag in your feed. Plus some of the latest stories in your stories bar for that hashtag.

You can always unfollow a hashtag at any time.

As it is a relatively new feature, you may see an alert pop up in your feed, as well as suggestions of popular hashtags to follow:

How to spot posts from hashtags you follow?

Once you have selected which hashtags you would like to follow, you will see them appear in your feed with a red circular icon with a hashtag in the middle – as shown below.

But, because some hashtags have genuine multiple meanings, you can teach Instagram about what aspects you like.

If you click on the three dots in the top right of the post, you can choose the ‘Don’t share for This Hashtag‘ option. This will signify that you don’t want to see more images like this while you follow this hashtag on Instagram.

It doesn’t mean that you are “unfollowing” the hashtag, you are just training Instagram about what aspects of that tag you prefer.
