Are Linkedin Groups changing in 2018?

Date: 13 February 2018

Are Linkedin Groups changing in 2018?What is happening – are LinkedIn groups changing – and is it for the better?

There has been a lot of talk over the last few weeks about how LinkedIn groups are changing. But how?

If you are a group admin on LinkedIn you will have had an email with some information – but otherwise, you may be hearing rumours and not sure what is up! The news is that LinkedIn is planning to make groups a bigger part of the main LinkedIn experience. At the moment groups are rather separate and found via a link hidden away on the LinkedIn menu structure – which takes you to https://www.linkedin.com/groups/.  (See more below)

Groups are a really valuable tool for networking and connecting, as long as members are well behaved! So it will be great to have them integrated into the main LinkedIn experience.

Facebook has groups very central in a user’s experience and now LinkedIn is following suit. LinkedIn is a very powerful platform that is still underused by many SME businesses for online networking, identifying prospects and advertising. (Talk to us if you’d like more insight into LinkedIn and social media advertising.)

How are LinkedIn Groups changing?

As a LinkedIn group admin, we have had some advance details on what’s coming for your groups.

Here are some of the improvements that will be rolled out in LinkedIn groups on the web and mobile during 2018:

1.Discover and access groups more easily
You’ll be able to access your groups right from the homepage. You’ll see the latest content from your groups in notifications and the homepage feed.

2. Be a part of richer conversations
You’ll be able to post videos into your groups, @mention the members you want to get involved and keep the conversation going by replying to comments. These have now started to be rolled out. You’ll begin seeing notifications for social activities on your group posts, including likes, comments, and @mentions, as well as membership activities, such as group invitations. These real-time alerts of groups’ activities will be available directly on the notifications tab on the LinkedIn website and LinkedIn mobile apps. To update your notifications preferences, visit the Communications tab in Settings & Privacy.

We’ll let you know when we know more. Have you seen function change in your profile yet?

  • On the next screen you will be able to click on MY GROUPS to see groups you manage and groups you are a member of.  The DISCOVER tab is where you can search for potential groups to join (but you can also look at any individuals profile and scroll down to see what groups they belong to for ideas too.)

    1. I have found the new platform less helpful when it comes to sharing information with multiple groups.
